FTTH Install Pics and WiringThese are just some of the early pics from my FTTH Unifi install. They should give you a clear picture of what to expect when you perform the Unifi install. There are currently two main Unifi install methods, one that uses fiber optics (terrace homes, etc.) and the other which uses VDSL (high-rise units). The only difference is that the FTTH install uses a Fiberhome modem (which converts fiber optic cabling to RJ45) and the VDSL setup uses a ZTE VDSL modem which does the same thing but using standard RJ11 phone lines. Beyond the Fiberhome/ZTE VDSL, it's the same Dlink DIR-615 and IPTV set top box.
Basic Network Diagram
Fiberhome Unit
Fiber optic cable (in white) goes into this unit. Yellow Cat5 cable from this unit is wired into the DIR-615's WAN port. Has a USB port which is meant for an external battery (?) and 2x RJ11 connectors. One of these RJ11 connectors will be wired into the provided DECT phone. The DECT phone can be replaced with any other phone which uses the standard RJ11 jack.
D-Link DIR-615 G1
DIR-615 back connectors. 1x LAN cable from the Fiberhome is wired into the RJ45 WAN Port (marked yellow) as mentioned above. 3x RJ45 connectors which are meant to be plugged into PCs (marked blue). 1x RJ45 port for the Set Top Box (marked red).
Fiber Optic Termination Point
Small termination box for the fiber optic cable (on left). Left cable (in black) comes directly from the outside of your house. White cable (on right) with socket connectors is used to connect into the Fiberhome unit.
IPTV Set Top Box
Red RJ45 port to be wired into IPTV port on the DIR-615. Various other connectors for video/audio out (HDMI, S/PDIF, S-VIDEO, analog video). USB port (unknown function?).
